Rank for govt quota
A government-quota seat in a private college costs about half the private-quota fee. See which branch your rank reaches.
Tuition, Hostel, Deposits and Stipend — the Real 3-Year Number
The fee on the allotment letter is only part of the story. Hostel, deposits, penalties and the bond add to it — and the stipend can take a large bite out of it. This page puts every piece together so you can see the real cost of three years of MD/MS in Karnataka.
Please note: tuition is from a compilation of the 2025 KEA PG fee matrix; stipend rates are from the Karnataka order effective 1 August 2024 as reported. Hostel figures are examples from colleges that publish them.

Tuition alone for three years is about ₹23.49 lakh on a government-quota seat and ₹41.64 lakh on a private-quota seat in a Karnataka private college. Add hostel and mess — around ₹1.8–2.65 lakh a year where colleges publish it. Against that, the Karnataka government PG stipend is ₹56,250–₹68,750 a month (₹22.50 lakh over three years) — if your college pays it in full, a government-quota seat costs very little net.

NMC’s PG regulations (PGMER 2023) require private colleges to pay PG students a stipend at par with government institutions in the same state, as widely reported. In practice payment varies: several Karnataka deemed universities’ 2025 notices still list ₹45,000 / ₹50,000 / ₹55,000 a month. RGUHS told colleges in May 2026 to publish stipends on their websites. Ask current students what is actually paid.
Government and private-quota fees in the KEA fee matrix are yearly amounts, and college documents show tuition charged year by year. Some colleges make you pay the balance of the whole course if you leave midway — read the undertaking before you sign.
Hostel and mess (often compulsory), caution deposits, university and exam fees, counselling deposits, books and conferences, and the seat-cancellation penalty if you leave a KEA seat late. Plan for one year of compulsory service after PG in Karnataka.
On a government-quota seat, a full stipend at the current government rate (₹22,50,000 over three years) covers most of the tuition (₹23,49,324). On a private-quota seat it covers well under half; on management seats far less.
Listed management (“other quota”) fees for MD General Medicine, Radiology, Dermatology, Paediatrics and OBG ranged from ₹60.15 lakh to ₹160.15 lakh in a 2025 compilation of the KEA fee matrix.
