What Are the Main Routes Into Law in Bangalore?
After 12th, choose a five-year integrated law programme such as BA LLB, BBA LLB or BCom LLB. After graduation, choose a three-year LLB. CLAT is important for participating National Law Universities, but it is not compulsory for every private law college in Bangalore.
NLSIU’s five-year BA LLB (Hons.) is admitted through CLAT merit. NLSIU’s three-year LLB (Hons.) uses its own NLSAT-LLB entrance test. Private universities may use their own entrance tests, accept CLAT/CUET/other scores, or use another published selection process.
Useful Numbers Before You Apply
Concrete 2026 reference points from official regulatory and university sources.
NLSIU states BA LLB (Hons.) admission is purely through CLAT merit and there is no upper age limit.
NLSIU’s 2026-27 three-year LLB intake is 120. NLSAT-LLB was held on 26 April 2026.
BCI continues to publish 2026-27 approval, inspection and prohibited-admission notices for Centres of Legal Education.

NLSIU Does Not Have a Management-Seat Shortcut
NLSIU states that admission to its five-year BA LLB (Hons.) is purely on the basis of CLAT merit. It also states that it does not offer NRI seats.
For graduates, NLSIU’s three-year LLB (Hons.) has a separate NLSAT-LLB admission process. AdmissionMantra does not claim or sell a management-seat route to NLSIU.
Who Is Eligible?
Use the current BCI baseline together with the exact university or college criteria for your target programme.
Five-Year Integrated
10+2/equivalent. BCI states 45% General, 42% OBC and 40% SC/ST as the minimum qualifying-exam benchmark.
Three-Year LLB
Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. The same BCI 45% / 42% / 40% benchmark applies to the qualifying degree.
Entrance Tests
NLSIU BA LLB uses CLAT; NLSIU 3-year LLB uses NLSAT-LLB. Private universities can use their own published selection route.
Age
NLSIU states no upper age limit for BA LLB and no age limit for its 3-year LLB. Some private institutions publish different age conditions, so verify the target college.
Nepal / Foreign Students
International applicants may face separate entrance, equivalence, identity, visa and university-specific documentation rules.
BCI notes that meeting the minimum qualifying percentage makes a candidate eligible to apply; a university may still impose additional admission criteria.
Can You Get Admission Without CLAT?
Yes, depending on the private university. But “without CLAT” does not mean “without eligibility or an admission process”.

Common Questions About Law Admission
Can I get LLB admission in Bangalore without CLAT?
Yes. CLAT is not compulsory for every Bangalore law college. CLAT is used for participating National Law Universities such as NLSIU’s five-year BA LLB route, while private universities may use their own entrance test, accept other scores or follow their own admission process.
What percentage is required for LLB admission?
The Bar Council of India currently states a minimum qualifying-exam benchmark of 45% for General, 42% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST candidates for five-year integrated law after 12th or three-year LLB after graduation. A university can still apply additional or stricter admission criteria.
Can I do a three-year LLB after BCom, BSc, BBA or engineering?
Yes. A three-year LLB is specifically meant for graduates. Your bachelor’s degree can be in any discipline, subject to the target university’s marks and admission requirements.
Can I get NLSIU Bangalore through management quota?
No. NLSIU states that admission to its five-year BA LLB (Hons.) is purely through CLAT merit. NLSIU also states that it does not offer NRI seats. Its three-year LLB (Hons.) uses NLSAT-LLB, not a management-seat route.
Does NLSIU have an age limit for BA LLB or three-year LLB?
NLSIU currently states that there is no upper age limit for its five-year BA LLB (Hons.) and no age limit for its three-year LLB (Hons.). Other universities may publish different age conditions, so check the exact college rule before applying.
How do I check whether a law college is BCI approved?
Check the Bar Council of India legal-education information for the current approval or affiliation status of the Centre of Legal Education, then verify the exact course and university affiliation. BCI also publishes notices about institutions prohibited from taking admissions.
Can Nepali students study law in Bangalore?
Yes, international applicants can have law-study options in Bangalore, but the route depends on the university. Foreign-national applicants may have separate admission tests, equivalence and immigration requirements. Professional practice rights in India or Nepal should be checked separately from admission eligibility.
