Recognised MBBS Qualification
You must hold a recognised MBBS degree or provisional MBBS pass certificate as permitted under the applicable NMC rules.
First satisfy the national NEET PG requirements, then check the Karnataka seat category you want to claim. Government, private/open, management, NRI and deemed-university seats do not all follow the same eligibility route.
Important: qualifying NEET PG does not automatically make a candidate eligible for every Karnataka quota. KEA eligibility is linked to the specific seat category and supporting clause/documents.

To participate in Karnataka PG medical counselling, you must first be NEET PG 2026 eligible and qualified. For 2026, NBEMS requires a recognised MBBS qualification, valid medical registration and completion of the one-year internship by 30 September 2026. After that, KEA determines which Karnataka government, private/open, management or other seat categories you can claim.
These are the foundation. Karnataka quota eligibility is checked only after the candidate satisfies the NEET PG admission requirements.
You must hold a recognised MBBS degree or provisional MBBS pass certificate as permitted under the applicable NMC rules.
Permanent or provisional registration issued by NMC / erstwhile MCI / State Medical Council must satisfy the applicable admission rule.
For NEET PG 2026, NBEMS announced 30 September 2026 as the internship-completion cut-off.
You must meet the qualifying criteria declared for NEET PG 2026. KEA does not conduct a separate PG medical entrance examination.
Your Karnataka eligibility depends on whether you are claiming government, private/open, management, NRI or another seat category.
Use this as an orientation table, not as a substitute for the final 2026 KEA eligibility clause and seat matrix.
Eligibility changes with seat type. “Can apply in Karnataka” and “can claim Karnataka government quota” are not the same question.
| Candidate / Route | Government / State-Restricted Seats | Private / Open Seats | Management / NRI | What to Verify |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Karnataka-eligible candidate | Potentially Eligible | Eligible Subject to Rules | If Category Conditions Met | Exact KEA eligibility clause, category and supporting documents. |
| MBBS graduate from Karnataka | Check KEA Clause | Generally Broader Access | If Category Conditions Met | Do not assume MBBS location alone proves every government or reservation claim. |
| Non-Karnataka / MBBS outside Karnataka | Usually Restricted — Verify | Open Categories May Apply | Category Rules Apply | Check current KEA private/open eligibility and institution participation. |
| NRI / NRI-sponsored candidate | Not a General Govt Route | Depends on Seat Type | If NRI Conditions Met | NRI status, relationship, sponsor documents and current KEA/MCC notice. |
| Deemed-university applicant | Separate Route | Separate Route | MCC Deemed Counselling | Follow MCC PG counselling eligibility and participating-institute rules. |
| Foreign MBBS graduate | Additional Conditions | Additional Conditions | Additional Conditions | FMGE / screening, registration and other NMC/NBEMS eligibility requirements as applicable. |
Government and other state-restricted seats require the candidate to fit the Karnataka eligibility clause notified by KEA.
Your eligibility should be matched to the current KEA clause, not decided only from where you presently live.
Candidates from other states can have access to certain Karnataka private/open seats even when they are not eligible for state-restricted government seats.
This is one of the most important reasons to separate “Karnataka counselling” from “Karnataka government quota.”
NRI seats have additional eligibility and documentation requirements beyond general NEET PG qualification.
NRI eligibility notices can be very specific and can change between counselling authorities and rounds.
Indian citizens / OCI candidates with a primary medical qualification outside India have additional screening and registration requirements.
Foreign MBBS qualification and Karnataka quota eligibility are two separate checks; passing one does not automatically prove the other.
Verify your MBBS recognition, registration, internship completion and NEET PG qualification.
Karnataka-eligible, non-Karnataka, NRI, foreign MBBS, in-service and PwD claims can follow different rules.
Separate government, private/open, management, NRI and deemed-university routes.
Collect the documents required to support the eligibility, reservation or quota you claim.
Verify your eligibility against the latest KEA or MCC matrix before option entry.
Eligibility problems often happen when students mix national NEET PG eligibility with Karnataka quota eligibility.
Rank analysis only becomes useful after your eligible seat categories are clear. A non-Karnataka candidate, Karnataka government-quota candidate, NRI candidate and deemed-university applicant can all see a different practical choice list.
A candidate must first satisfy the national NEET PG eligibility conditions: a recognised MBBS degree or provisional MBBS pass certificate, valid permanent or provisional medical registration, completion of the one-year internship by the prescribed cut-off, and qualification in NEET PG 2026. Karnataka counselling eligibility then depends on the KEA seat category and eligibility clause being claimed.
NBEMS announced 30 September 2026 as the internship-completion cut-off for NEET PG 2026. Candidates should still check the latest NBEMS and counselling notices in case any admission-specific clarification is issued.
Non-Karnataka candidates can be eligible for certain open, private, management or other non-state-restricted seat categories in participating Karnataka institutions, subject to the current KEA rules. They should not assume that this makes them eligible for Karnataka government or other state-restricted quota seats.
No. Karnataka PG medical counselling contains different seat categories. State-restricted government or reservation benefits have Karnataka-specific eligibility clauses, while some private or open categories can have broader all-India eligibility. The exact 2026 KEA seat-category rules should be checked before registration.
Studying MBBS in Karnataka can be relevant to Karnataka eligibility, but candidates should not assume that MBBS location alone proves every government-quota or reservation claim. KEA eligibility is clause-based, and the applicable 2026 rule and supporting documents must be satisfied.
Yes, certain private or open seat categories can be available to NEET PG qualified candidates from outside Karnataka. Eligibility depends on the current KEA category structure, institution participation and any seat-specific conditions.
Deemed-university PG medical counselling is generally conducted through MCC. Candidates interested in institutions such as deemed universities should follow MCC eligibility and counselling notices rather than assuming the KEA state process applies.
Indian citizens or OCI candidates with a primary medical qualification from outside India must satisfy the applicable screening, registration and NEET PG requirements. This can include qualifying FMGE where required and holding the registration status prescribed by NMC or the relevant medical council.
Yes. NRI or NRI-sponsored seats can require specific candidate or sponsor status, relationship proof and additional documents. Candidates should verify the current KEA or MCC NRI notice for the exact route they are using.
No. NEET PG qualification is the national entrance requirement, but individual Karnataka seat categories can have additional eligibility, domicile or study clauses, reservation conditions, NRI rules, in-service conditions or counselling-authority requirements.
Separate national NEET PG eligibility from Karnataka government, private/open, management, NRI and deemed-university seat eligibility.
